STEM in the KitchenNovember 28, 2017
There are many opportunities that you can help them with their math skills while in the kitchen. This is a great environment for them to estimate, compare, count and make predictions.
When cooking, show your child the different ingredients you are using. Ask them which containers have more or less and talk about why. Count out loud together about how many scoops and ingredients you are adding to your bowl while cooking. You can even discuss the different textures of ingredients and how adding liquids can change the consistency while cooking.
Have them make a prediction about what will happen to the recipe when you bake it. Working together in the kitchen lets them use their thinking skills and helps them to learn new vocabulary as you share new and exciting concepts.
